Why are you doubting the windows authenticity? Granted the midwest is not the classiest area, but still... I'm not doubting that you have good reasons to doubt, I'm just curious as to what those reasons may be.

Ben, you need to reread my earlier statement. There is no doubt about the stained glass windows being from the Tiffany Studio. But at this point I don't know about the interior furnishings which the church is saying were designed by Tiffany Studios and is only one of 10 in the country. Do they have letters to this effect? I don't know. What in the interior, other than the stained glass, was "decorated" by Tiffany Studios - pulpit, font, pews? I just don't know. The local art museum also would like to see their "proof" of the church interior begin designed by the Tiffany firm. One of 10 in the US?? That would really be interesting if it was/is true. And,,, there ARE some extremely interesting Tiffany, and other, stained glass windows in the midwest thanks to the entrepreneurs from the steel, auto, electric light, tin plating (and other) late 19th and early 20th c. industries.
But to take your question a step further - the Michigan Stained Glass Census, of which I am a part, has encountered several churches where they state the windows are Tiffany, and we very much doubt that. Just because opalescent glass is used, does not make them Tiffany windows. (and in one case there was NO opalescent glass). Need dedication papers, newpaper article of the day, invoices, bill of sale, or be listed in the Duncan book which documents Tiffany windows installed up to 1910/11.

Hello Barbara!
Thanks for the info & the link regarding the Reid Memorial Tiffany Windows. I have posted photos of an Ohio Tiffany triptych that is of the same design on the Forum website: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/stainedglassforum/ (see Knollwood Tiffany photo album) that you may be interested in seeing. The window is in the Knollwood Cemetery in Mayfield Heights, Ohio. There are 11 signed Tiffany windows (4 are triptychs), 9 signed Westminster windows and many others that look to be from either but are unsigned.
Sorry- the photos don't do it justice and it is unfortunate that there is paint failure. We found the flame areas to be especially exquisite.

Hi Janet, Who were the patrons for all those windows? Do their homes and/or churches also have windows from Tiffany Studios? For those who are not aware, Westminster Studios came about to complete jobs after the closing of the Tiffany Studios. (Bob JOnes Biographical Index) I know of one other place with Westminster windows. Any others out there?

The owner of my company comes from Richmond, and it is well known that Reid and Tiffany were good friends. My manager, is going to the meeting thursday night, he claims that they have paperwork officiating the claims. If I get any flyers or documents from him after the meeting I'll pass them on...

Last week I made a post wondering about the "interior furnishings" of Reid Memorial Church, Richmond, IN. The church literature states the interior was designed by Tiffany Studios. During the presentations the other night, mention was made of a local company known to have made all the pews, and a local company that made the large ceiling light fixtures. Now, whether these were made from Tiffany Studio specifications is not known. But, there was some very intricate tile work on the floor in the narthex and even on the floor in the outdoor portico.....so a lot remains to be discovered. And a very interesting memorial plaque in the narthex, using iridescent tile/glass for the inscription, laid in gray slate/stone. Someone on this Forum said it was well known Daniel Reid and Tiffany were acquainted. There does not seem to be any evidence to that fact, but it certainly is possible as they were both involved in New York City glitter and glamour.
About 220 people attended the presentation and here is a recap of the evening.
