Mary Clerkin Higgins - just finished installing the rest of Rowan LeCompte's Isaiah Window at the Washington National Cathedral. After viewing the first two lancets the committee decided to install all four. The fascinating story of the saga of this window was documented by filmmaker Peter Swanson in "Let There be Light"

Peter came down to cover the final chapter, the window's full installation. The crew photo shows , from the left, Peter Swanson, Larry Gordon, Takuji Hamanaka, Marie-Pascale Foucault-Phipps, Will Benson, Nancy Nicholson, and Mary Clerkin Higgins Clerkin Higgins Stained Glass, Inc. with Rowan's masterpiece, the West Rose Window, behind us.The scaffolding is still up, but will come down soon. It was an exhausting, but fun, week. Rowan would have been very happy!
REMEMBER THE AGG CONFERENCE 2015 WILL BE SEEING THIS CHURCH....AND SEVERAL OTHERS!!!

Rowan was commissioned to replace an earlier window of his - Elijah, S8, in the south clerestory, second from the crossing. The earlier window had been selected dark, on purpose, but then Rowan's conception of how the nave should look changed, making it the only dark window of his 18 nave clerestory windows. He always wanted to change it and a donor came through, making it possible.

Mary, what did the Cathedral do with the original "dark" window?

The window is in crates at the cathedral and I haven't heard of any plans they might have. It would be great to have it in a museum. It's a powerful window and was only removed to unite the windows in the clerestory.

O K now I unsderstand, the first window was in the trifourim, next to the Healing Arts window. I was told to make the lancet next to Rowan's window DARKER to help the color modulation from that window to the next. I did and I thought that was the end of the problem. If indeed that is the window you are refering to. I know the feeling I had to redo a whole window because of color and other things about it, by request of canon Feller. I did and as far as I know it is still in place..CZ
